WHO – Senator Amy Volk (R – Cumberland) will introduce a Legislative Sentiment to recognize the accomplishments of harness driver, Kevin Switzer, Jr.

Kevin Switzer, Jr., the leading percentage driver in North America during 2014, was honored through special recognition by the Maine State Senate on Tuesday (1/13). Joining Kevin, from left to right were Jason Gravel (Executive Director of the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association), Sharon Terry (Owner of Scarborough Downs), Denise Terry (Vice President, Scarborough Downs), Senator Amy Volk (R – Cumberland), Switzer and his wife Elizabeth, Mike Sweeney (track announcer Scarborough Downs) and Linwood Higgins (MHHA).
WHAT – Legislative Sentiments are significant expressions of the sense of the Legislature. They are a public declaration in honor of a personal achievement signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

WHERE – Senate Chamber, Maine State Capitol Building, Augusta, Maine

WHEN – Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM Senator Volk will be recognized by the President of the Senate at which time she will speak to the accomplishments of Kevin Switzer, Jr during his 2014 harness racing season. Mr. Switzer will then receive the commendation of the full Senate.

WHY - 2014 was an outstanding year for Kevin Switzer, Jr. as he earned bragging rights as the top harness driver in Maine, scoring 377 wins, 68 more than his closest competitor. More impressively though, his .410 UDRS, a sort of batting average for harness drivers, ranked Kevin as the top percentage driver in all of North America in 2014 while the horses he drove earned more than $1.1-million in purses.
