Wendy Ireland’s contract to serve as Executive Director of the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association expired earlier this year, and at the Board of Director’s meeting Thursday night, directors voted not to renew her contract. Sources confirm that the vote was 5 to 2. Ireland was notified after the vote that she had been fired.

Ireland was named interim Executive Director in February 2011, replacing Chandler Woodcock, who took a position at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. She was named Executive Director in April 2011 and resigned her director’s position on the Board of Directors.

The Augusta office will remain open. Rhonda Miller will be in the office during regular business hours. Members are reminded that they can contact any of the directors if they have any issues they wish to discuss.

The MHHA Board will decide how they will replace Ireland in the coming months.
