Scarborough Downs Optimistic About Future |
|
Although the outcome of Tuesday’s vote was disappointing
for everyone associated with Maine harness racing,
Scarborough Downs and Sharon Terry are committed
to bringing fans the best harness racing possible
for the immediate future. The track has applied
for 110 race dates in 2012, with opening day
scheduled for March 31st, and there still is
plenty of exciting racing left in the 2011 season,
with live racing continuing through December
18.
The Downs is continuing to explore the best
route to realize the plan for a fully-integrated
racino here in southern Maine, which was approved
by voters statewide in 2003 and remains vital
to the long-term stability of our industry.
In the meantime, we want to thank every one
of our supporters who worked so hard with us
to fight for the preservation of this wonderful
Maine industry. Our heritage, open space and
the family farms of Maine harness racing are
well worth the effort, and the certain knowledge
that our cause is just and in the best interest
of the State of Maine, leaves us no doubt that
ultimately we will prevail.
