Nose To Nose, Toe To Toe
Mike Sweeney for Scarborough Downs
April 16, 2011

On an afternoon whose temperature made it feel more like the end of the meet rather than the beginning, five Free-for-All fillies and mares took to the raceway with one goal in mind: to finish on top. At the conclusion of that contest, not one, but two of these mares would claim top dog status as Keystone Natalie (Drew Campbell) and Look To Book (James Hardy) finished in a dead heat.

Look to Book (#2) with driver James Hardy, battles it out with Keystone Natalie (#1) and driver Drew Campbell, resulting in the track’s fastest dead heat ever recorded at the Downs, timed in 1:57.2.
Unable to be separated by even a nose, these two accomplished race mares simultaneously entered the winner’s circle, and stood nose to nose as the teletimer proclaimed the mile in 1:57.2 – the fastest dead heat ever recorded at Scarborough Downs.

Keystone Natalie is owned by Richard Knight of Westbrook and trained by Scarborough’s top conditioner, Randy Bickmore, while Look to Book is owned by David MacDonald of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and trained by Bo Sowers.

In other news, top driver Drew Campbell held the hot hand scoring a driving triple on the program, in fact winning the final three races on the card. Matching Drew’s performance, 2010 Driving Champion Shawn Gray, scored three wins of his own.

Live racing returns to The Downs on Sunday at 1:05 pm.
