The third annual MSBOA Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament was held on Monday, August
22nd at the Nonesuch River Golf Club in Scarborough. Hole sponsors, golfers, contributors
and volunteers all helped to raise money for the MSBOA scholarship fund.
Of the nine teams participating, top honors went to Mike Sweeney, Dana Childs, Pat
Sweeney and Brian Walker. On the men’s side, Billy Smith earned the award for Closest
to the Pin and Pat Sweeney took home the prize for the Longest Drive. Susan Clary picked
up both awards for the women. The “Needs Lasix” award went to the team of Sharon Terry,
Judy Thomas, Norm Bernier and John Thomas.
Each year the Maine Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association awards scholarships
to students with ties to the Maine harness racing industry. In 2011, more than $10,000
was awarded by the MSBOA to six students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The next horsemens' golf tournament will be held on October 3 for the MHHA Scholarship
Fund. Details will be posted on that outing soon.
