April 2nd is opening day at Scarborough Downs with a post time at 4:00pm
on Saturday and a 1:05 pm post time on Sunday. The Maine Racing season
has been dormant from December 19th and the state's horsemen are chewing
at the bit to get back on the track.
To make sure all horsemen are prepared for opening day we have prepared
a small checklist to make sure horsemen are prepared for opening day
All horsemen must be licensed by the State of Maine before entering
the paddock area without exception. The application for an owner/driver/trainer
license is available by following
this link. A Groom's license is available by following
this link. Any other needed licenses can be found under the commission
tab at the top of the page. Remember, licenses cannot be obtained at
the racetracks. They must be obtained through the commission office
in Augusta.
Any horse that is enrolled in Maine's Controlled Medication Program
must have all paperwork filed with the Commission Veterinarian before
it can be declared in to start. No entries can be accepted by the race
office without proper paperwork submitted. Horses will no longer be
allowed to be removed or enrolled in the Controlled Medication Program
on race day.
The Commission Veterinary will accept the necessary paperwork on the
day a horse qualifies. Be prepared to fill out the paperwork on qualifying
day.
We have provided links to all necessary Controlled Medication Program
paperwork under the Commission tab at the top of the page.
Horsemen are also reminded that Scarborough Downs will be requiring
a valid coggins test and EHV vaccinations within six months.
Scarborough Downs is also asking that horsemen have claiming authorizations
on file in the racing office before a horse is entered into a claiming
event. A copy of the claiming authorization can be downloaded under
the horsemen tab above.
Scarborough Downs will hold pre-meet qualifying races on Wednesday, March 23, Saturday, March 26, and
Wednesday, March 30.
