The summer of speed has hit Homeric proportions at Scarborough Downs, as track record after track record
continues to tumble at the Seaside Oval. Iza Bella became the latest exceptional equine and on Thursday
(9/2) etched her name in the record books as the fastest two-year-old filly to tread the historic stone
dust, shaving one full second off the previous benchmark, completing the mile in 2:03.
Racing under the guidance of Ivan Davies, Iza Bella, the 2-year-old daughter of Boy Band/Malimony, is owned and was bred by Michael Andrew of Gorham, Maine.
The previous record, a longstanding benchmark, was set by another Maine-bred, Hi There Lady (Gordon Corey) in 2001.
Other stakes winners on Thursday included Katahdin Gossip (Gary Hall), Cyber Cast (Mark Athearn), and Cranmeadow Express (Paul Battis), who remains undefeated in stakes company this year, claiming his 9th consecutive win.
Stakes action continues on Saturday afternoon (9/4) and features 3-year-old pacing fillies. Post time is 4 pm.
