Shady Sabrina, fresh off a dominating campaign
on the mid-Atlantic circuit earlier this season,
has now set up shop at Scarborough Downs and
has quickly become the Queen of the Local Scene,
having now captured three consecutive Free-for-All
contests at the Southern Maine oval.
On Saturday, Shady Sabrina claimed victory in the
$10,000 opening leg of the Mid-Summer Classic
Pacing Series (with Kevin Switzer driving),
and in the process bested a stellar field of
accomplished stallions and geldings. Not only
did this mare beat the boys, she also equaled
the all-age distaff track record in the process.
Leaving hard from the get-go and never looking
back, Shady Sabrina made every pole a winning
one, en route to the scalding clocking of 1:55
flat. Today’s performance co-enshrines her in
the record books with Gracie Gracie, who set
the gold standard last July with, ironically,
Kevin Switzer calling the shots back then, just
as he did today. Today’s win marked the 10th
seasonal victory for Shady Sabrina; the 61st
of her magnificent career. Her lifetime earnings
stand in excess of $410,000. Shady Sabrina is
co-owned by the Golden Hour Stables of Providence,
RI and the KDK Standardbreds of Cumberland,
ME.
The Mid-Summer Classic continues next weekend
with the $10,000 second round, culminating in
the $25,000 final on July 17th. Post time 4
pm.
