Nature’s Kerogen is a natural occurring high-density
compound found in rock. Scarborough Downs’ Kerogen
is a rock-solid trotting machine.
Friday (6/18), Kerogen once again rose to the
top, claiming his fifth-consecutive victory
over Scarborough’s Free-for-All stars. Kerogen
hit the highway and never looked back, fronting
all comers twice around the half-mile oval stopping
the teletimer in a seasonal best in 1:58.4,
just 1/5th of a second off of his own track
record for aged stallions which he set, and
then equaled, in 2008.
Kerogen has now won 53 of his 106 lifetime starts
-- fully one-half -- an astounding percentage.
Owned by Lew Hayden of Pleasanton, Texas, Kerogen
is handled by the husband-and-wife team of Kim
and Wendy Ireland. He is the two-time defending
State-of-Maine Trotter of the Year and appears
hell-bent on securing his third consecutive
trotting crown.
In other track news: The $15,000 the final of
The Rising Star Pacing Series takes center stage
Saturday afternoon at the Downs; the richest
event thus far on the State of Maine harness
racing scene. Post time 4 pm. Sunday, Father’s
Day, features a special chicken BBQ out on the
apron for $6.95 and a free gift for Dads. Post
time: 1:30 pm.
