Charlize confidently claimed victory in the $8,000 Free-For-All class at Scarborough Downs on Friday (5/7), two starts removed from competing as a $10,000 claimer. The reigning Queen of the Upper Class Set now boasts 2 consecutive wins at the Downs, the track upon which she has showcased her finest moments.

Charlize boasts 2 consecutive wins at the Downs on Friday as she claimed victory in the $8,000 Free-For-All with driver Russell Lanpher III
The five-year-old daughter of Defies Logic took full advantage of uncharacteristic missteps from post-time favorites Kerogen and Tsarina, both of whom were heavily favored to contend for the lion’s share of the $8,000 purse.

Driver Russell Lanpher III angled his mare three-wide off the final turn before gliding over Scarborough’s storied stretch to seal the in-hand victory timed in 2:01.2

Charlize returned $34.80 to win, typifying the Friday afternoon payoffs at Scarborough Downs as long shots reined supreme; 4 of the 10 winners paying in excess of $30, keying telephone numbers in the exotics.

Live racing resumes Saturday afternoon at Scarborough with a 4 pm post time. Featured on the twelve-race card is the State of Maine debut of world-champion pacer, Cactus Creek, who will be stabled under the care of repatriated trainer, Jamie Gerard, who has brought his twelve-horse string to the Seaside Oval for the summer season.
