Scarborough, Maine – Veteran harness driver Gary Mosher has the finish line firmly in sight as he continues his quest toward his 5000th career victory. He bounded toward the milestone mark on Sunday (October 26) at Scarborough Downs, dominating the action at the seaside oval to claim four of the afternoon’s ten dashes. The 49-year-old state of Maine native’s win total now stands at 4988, leaving him just 12 wins shy of the landmark plateau.

Mosher got the action started quickly on Sunday engineering a convincing win behind Tyron Trouble N, tracking the early speed of Dublin Prince N (John Beckwith) before pouncing past the pacesetter at three-parts to draw off to an imposing nine-length margin at the wire.

DP’s Mitch promptly joined the win parade as Mosher aggressively pointed the three-year-old to the quarter-marker in an overland clocking of 28-4/5th only to relinquish the early lead to the re-taking Ucantellmenothin (Wallace Watson). Mosher tracked the insistent pace throughout the mile, pouncing to the half-length victory by squeezing up the pylons at the last possible moment.

Colerain gave Mosher his third win of the afternoon, this time in front-running style as the five year-old daughter of Cole Muffler valiantly held off a prolonged and determined charge from Sugar Valley Cathy and driver Kevin Switzer, Jr.

Saving the best for last, Mosher took top honors in the $5000 Fillies and Mares feature on Sunday with Keystone Natalie as he tracked the unhurried L-N-A’s Dream (Leigh Fitch) to a pedestrian half of  one-minute flat. Fitch and Mosher then hooked up in a second-half battle of epic proportions as the top two sped away from the field through a torrid back-half of 57-4/5th. When the dust had cleared Mosher and Keystone Natalie had prevailed over the Fox (Fitch) to post his fourth top tally of the afternoon.

With Sunday’s performance now in the books, Mosher stands just 12 victories shy of becoming the seventh state of Maine native to join the 5000 win club as he bids to join Walter Case Jr. (11,207), William Parker Jr. (9482), Leigh Fitch (7394), Bruce Ranger (7317), David Ingraham (5860) and Ted Wing (5120).

Fine company indeed.
